Analog Reel-to-Reel, Cassette and Digital Tape Transfer Service.
Creative Audio Works specializes in analog and digital tape transfer services. Analog Cassette, reel-to-reel tape and digital tape formats including DAT, DA88 and ADAT. Quality is important to us and a good transfer starts with state of the art equipment. We use Otari MTR-12 2 track reel-to-reel recorders for 3 3/4 ips-30 its transfers. Modified Tascam 32B tape recorders are used for 2 and 4 track tapes recorded at 1 7/8th ips. Studer A710 and A721 decks are used for 2 track cassette transfer and a Tascam 238 is used for 8 track cassette transfer.
All our machines are kept in excellent working condition and are regularly calibrated. All tapes are checked for condition, leaders are added to the beginning and end of each tape and then placed onto an appropriate machine for playback.

We can transfer all ¼” and ½” reel-to-reel tapes to high-resolution audio files or compact discs including any of the following tape head formats:
¼” Half Track (¼ track)
¼” 4 track
¼” and ½”inch Tascam and Fostex eight track (Dolby C, S and DBX Type 1)

1/2″ Eight Track Reel-to-Reel Transfer
Creative Audio Works can transfer ½” analog eight track reel-to-reel tape with or without DBX noise reduction to hi resolution 96k/24bit digital audio files. We use a custom head arrangement crafted by John French of JRF Magnetics. The erase and record heads have been removed and replaced with rollers to reduce drag thus reducing wow and flutter.
Many tapes recorded starting
in the late 1970’s where recorded on tape that now suffers from “Stick-Shed Syndrome”, a condition created by the deterioration of the binders in magnetic tape.
Creative Audio Works offers an all in one package of tape baking and transfer to digital files. Upon completion of the transfer you will receive a link to download your files.

Creative Audio Works can transfer and convert any cassette tape to high-resolution audio files, 2 track stereo, 4 track cassette and 8 track cassette with Dolby B, C and DBX can all be transferred to digital audio files.
Due to the small tape width and slow speed that cassettes run at, they usually have a reputation for poor sound quality and reduced frequency response. This is often the case but with the right tools, a well-recorded cassette can sound very good.

Tape and Cassette Repair
Reel-to reel tapes as well as cassettes and microcassettes can often snap, pull out from the end of one spool hub, or become wrapped around a part of the player’s transport. We can repair these problems to minimize any loss of the original recording.
Open reel tape can be quite old and in poor condition. We can repair broken, tangled, poorly stored tapes and tapes exhibiting the signs of ‘sticky tape syndrome’. Tapes with sticky tape syndrome need careful, slow heating, usually referred to as ‘tape baking’, which we offer using our Fisher Scientific incubator.
Digital Audio Tape Transfer
Creative Audio Works can convert digital audio formats such as, Digital Audio Tape (DAT) and Alesis ADAT M20 (sixteen tracks) to audio files and store them on Compact Disc, DVD, hard drive or posted to our server for download.
